F1 >>> nEWs LOTUS GETS ThE BENZ The Lotus Formula 1 team will race with Mercedes-Benz Power units next season. As expected, the team has confirmed that it will switch from Renault and take over a customer supply arrangement similar to the one used by McLaren this season. The news has been expected for three months and has been announced due to an exit fromthe team’s current Renault deal being finalised. As a part of the deal, Lotus will switch oil suppliers to Petronas next season. In line with Renault’s other customer teams the team currently has a deal with Total. While that could be good news for the team, it may not be for Romain Grosjean, whose links with the French oil giant are strong. “It is our desire that the e23 Hybrid, powered by Mercedes, heralds a new era of success for enstone,” said Lotus CeO Matthew Carter. “At this juncture we would also like to thank Renault, who have been so closely associated with the team over its history and for the joint success we have achieved together.” Mercedes engine boss Andy Cowell added: “Lotus is a strong technical group with excellent facilities and I am confident that together we will deliver a step forward in track performance next year.” Toto Wolff, Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport said, “It was strategically important for Mercedes-Benz to continue to supply three customers throughout this generation of Power unit, in addition to the primary focus on our silver Arrows works team, and it was therefore clear that we would be looking for a new customer from 2015. Lotus F1 Team is an impressive organisation that has delivered competitive on-track performances in recent seasons. We are pleased to welcome them to the Mercedes-Benz family and look forward to building a productive working relationship in the years ahead.” 13 GPWEEK.com // 13 GPWEEK.com // PARTNERS:
