MOTOGP >>> news MOTOGP – RACE MARC GETs iT dOnE AT hOndA's hOME Second place, to Jorge Lorenzo, was enough for Marc Marquez to clinch his second MotoGP world championship, and his fourth world crown in all, at Motegi on Sunday. Lorenzo took his second successive victory but the focus of the race was Marquez and attempt to secure the crown with three rounds to go. Marquez only needed to finish in front of Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi to guarantee the title. Marquez crossed the line 1.638s behind Lorenzo to collect the crucial points for the World Championship win, as Valentino Rossi completed the rostrum in third. He had a tough start to the race, slipping back to seventh through the first corner, while Rossi burst into the lead off the line. But Marquez overtook Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) and Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing) in the opening laps to hunt down the front group. He then picked off impressive pole man Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) and won a mid-race battle with Rossi, overtaking at the second attempt on lap nine for second position. Behind Lorenzo, Marquez and Rossi, Pedrosa eventually finished in fourth place, missing the podium by 0.555s, with Dovizioso in fifth. Andrea Dovizioso’s pole with the GP14.2 on pole was the first for the Italian make since 2010. Cal Crutchlow (Ducati), Karel Abraham and Yonny Hernandez all had less enjoyable days, all three falling. MotoGP now heads to Phillip Island in Australia this week.
