At Toro Rosso Daniil Kvyat took his seventh PU and the team took a strategic penalty by scheduling it for Texas. The Russian faced a 10-place penalty after the decision, and because only four cars started behind him at COTA (because of the smaller grid) some of that penalty will be carried over to this weekend’s race in Brazil. Mercedes-Benz appears to have overcome its resistance to engine updates. Following Sunday’s race in Austin Toto Wolff confirmed that the company had agreed to allow updates to the Power Units for 2015 that, potentially, could erode the German marque’s current dominant position in Grand Prix racing. The next hurdle to permitting engine development within the framework of the current ‘freeze’ regulations could be getting the engine makers to agree on the number of ‘tokens’ (performance related design changes) that are allowed by the FIA.
