But, just as it looked like he had the measure of Tom Luthi, the Marc VDS Kalex faltered on the run to the line, allowing the Swiss rider to take his second win in four races. It appeared that Rabat’s bike ran short of fuel on the run out of the final corner, allowing Luthi to take the victory. Regardless, Rabat scored his 14th podium of the season, equalling the record set by Marc Marquez in 2012. The duo cleared out on the opposition, with Johann Zarco taking third place, 9s back from the leaders. In doing so, he sealed third in the championship behind Rabat and teammate Mika Kallio. Luis Salom won the battle for fourth ahead of Xavier Salom, the pair chasing past Dominique Aegerter, who appeared to be struggling for tyre grip late in the race. Sam Lowes, whose second half of the season has been impressive, finished seventh. What was expected to be a battle for second in the championship fizzled out before it began. Maverick Viñales clanged into Mika Kallio when the pair were passing Aegerter. A clearly unhappy Finn gesticulated to Viñales from the side of the track, but the Spaniard was not so well off, pitting and retiring. 17 GPWEEK.com // 17 GPWEEK.com // PARTNERS:
