Team owner, Gene Haas is looking to prove them wrong and he has the background to do it. He set up his engineering company Haas Automation back in 1980 with just two employees, but now it has annual sales of more than a billion dollars. He has a strong background in motorsport. He owns NASCAR stockcar team Stewart-Haas alongside American megastar driver Tony Stewart and has steered it to two championships. piEro fErrAri Worth: £485m Age: 69 Nationality: Italian Title: Ferrari owner The only sur viving son of Enzo Ferrari, Piero Ferrari has a 10% stake in the car company and is set to increase his wealth even further when a planned stock market flotation takes place later this year. Piero’s mother was Enzo’s mistress, Lina Lardi, and his father did not publicly acknowledge him until the death of his wife Laura in 1978. He had already been working incognito at Ferrari for several years by then. He inherited from his father a love of engineering and worked on the road car division of the car company before taking a job overseeing the racing department in the mid 1970s. mokhzAni mAhAthir Worth: £465m Age: 54 Nationality: Malaysian Title: chairman of sepang International Circuit The son of Malaysia’s former prime minister, Mokhzani Mahathir is one of the richest and most influential men in the country. He admits that he is “hooked” on fast cars and is a keen amateur racing driver. He owns a string of Porsche dealerships and is the owner of one of only two Bugatti Veyrons in Malaysia. He doesn’t spend all his money on cars. Today F1’s organisers transport 40,000 glasses, 30,000 plates, 10,000 cut flowers, 5,500 magnums of champagne, and 200 tonnes of tent material to each race.
