GP Week : Issue 219
Pastor's Patience The 2015 season didn't get off to a great start for Pastor Maldonado. The Lotus driver punted out of the Australian Grand Prix at the first turn and since then things have hardly improved. Retirement in China was his third of the season, his fourth in a row if one goes back to the end of last season. Frustratingly the 2015 Lotus is far more competitive that its predecessor, though neither Maldonado nor Romain Grosjean have made the most of it. Take China for example where Maldonado ultimately retired with the team citing braking issues. He'd already had two incidents before clashing with Jenson Button, mistakes which had put the Venezuelan in that position and which probably cost him his first finish of the season. There was more of the same in Bahrain where Maldonado squandered an oppportunity to qualify in the top ten. Though he claimed there were problems with his Mercedes engine, and the brakes, his times were on par with those of teammate Grosjean which gave the impression Maldonado was getting in the escuses early. At least he saw the finish of the race, but well outside of the points in a car that should have easily been inside the top 10. For a team looking to move forward this season Maldonado is not helping Lotus' chances. 22 GPWEEK.com // 22 GPWEEK.com // F1 >>> BAHRAIN PARTNERS:
