F1 >>> news F1 >>> news After months of speculation, lewis Hamilton has finally confirmed he's resigned with Mercedes for another three seasons. As negotiations dragged on rumour mongers had linked the world champion with a move to Ferrari, where he would replace Kimi Raikkonen. “I was led to believe that the team wanted to continue with me and naturally with the success we’ve had and the relationship we have, it felt certain,” Hamilton said of the new deal. “I wasn’t being challenged elsewhere by another driver... which was a good thing.” Hamilton negotiated the contract himself, thought to be worth almost $155million over the next three years and makes him the highest paid Mercedes employee. It's understood the basics of the deal were agreed some time ago, with Hamilton taking his time over the finer details. "W ith all the success that we have had, the relationship we have, it felt certain," Hamiton explained. "That's why I kinda took my time. "We started conversations in February. I took my time; some weeks I thought about it, some weeks I didn't. I didn't feel there was a particular rush, I had this year still contracted so it wasn't the case that it was every single day I was studying it." "Continuity is one of the key factors for delivering success in Formula One and we now have that in place,” added Toto Wolff said. “It was a priority for this season to renew his contract for the next term. The new deal will keep Hamilton at Mercedes until the end of 2018, at which point he'll be 33. " is still pretty young" he laughed. "I definitely see me continuing past that." 14 GPWEEK.com // 14 GPWEEK.com // PARTNERS: F1 >>> news C M Y CM MY CY CMY K GP Week May FA Path HR.pdf 1 13/5/15 14:09 signed, sealed, delivered
