GP Week : Issue 222
.com weeK Accessible via the GPWeeK APP CLICK on the appropriate provider (right) In the lead up to the Canadian Grand Prix, the FIA announced it had opened applications for a new Formula One team for 2016. With the collapse of Caterham at the end of 2014 the sport fell to just ten teams, the governing body keen to see the grid expand to twelve for the coming season. “The overall long-term interests of the Championship will determine which candidate is selected,” read a vague statement from the FIA which failed to provide any great detail on what it was looking for in prospective teams. Those details will only be provided to applicants who register a formal expression of interest with the FIA by the end of June. A decision on whether an applicant will be admitted to the championship will be made at the end of September. It leaves any new team just six months to design and build its car, along with the task of setting up a race team. Currently, Formula One has just ten of a possible thirteen teams. With Haas F1 set to enter in 2016, eleven of the franchises will be filled regardless of whether the FIA finds any new candidates. Formula One last admitted new teams in 2010 when Hispania, Virgin (now Manor) and Lotus Racing (which became Caterham) joined the grid. Of those, only Manor has survived. wanted: new F1 team MANAGING EDITOR Chris Lambden firstname.lastname@example.org EDITOR Mat Coch CONTRIBUTING WRITERS Formula 1: Mike Doodson Paolo Filisetti (F1 Tech Editor) Sean Kelly Social Media: Ernie Black PhOTOGRAPhy Sutton Motorsport Images www.sutton-images.com Keith Sutton email@example.com: Mark Sutton, Daniel Kalisz, Mirko Stange, Dirk Klynsmith PUBlIShED By Grand Prix Week Ltd 61 Watling Street, Towcester Northants NN12 6AG United Kingdom PUBlIShER Chris Lambden firstname.lastname@example.org ADVERTISING Richard Partridge email@example.com Ph: + 44 1273 232 566 Mob: + 44 7771 567 644 Mark Sutton firstname.lastname@example.org se Asia, Australasia GPWEEK (Australia) email@example.com 12 GPWEEK.com // 12 GPWEEK.com // PARTNERS: F1 >>> news
