News of Kimi Raikkonen's new deal with Ferrari has been welcomed by Valtteri Bottas. The Williams driver had been heavily linked with a move to the Italian team, with many suggesting a deal was already done. Indeed, reports went so far as to put a dollar figure on the contract Bottas had signed, until Raikkonen was rather inconveniently retained. Raikkonen's place in the team had come into question after Ferrari boss Maurizio Arrivabene publicly stated he was considering the 36-year-old's future. That served only to fuel rumours that Bottas would join the Scuderia from next year, rumours that frustrated the younger Finn. "Nothing has changed for me since I heard the news," Bottas said on Thursday. "There are no rumours - now there are facts! And that proves that lot of the rumours were not true; but hey, this is Formula One!" Still under contract to Williams for 2016, Ferrari would have had to negotiate an early release. It's a point some have claimed was the stumbling block, suggesting a sum couldn't be agreed between the two teams. "I cannot confirm any of that," Bottas scoffed, going on to claim that he'd had no contact with Ferrari, and while he couldn't speak for his management he was left clearly frustrated by the persistent rumours. "There have been so many rumours. Some swear that I have already signed a contract with ‘them'. But you also need to look around at what is available. But ‘they' have made a decision and it is very clear for everyone right now what the situation is. For me it doesn't change anything. "Most of what was rumoured was simply not true," he added. "And it simply didn't do any good for mine and the team's relationship. So these kinds of rumours are pretty unfair. From now on it will be easier as everybody knows what the situation is." 10 GPWEEK.com // 10 GPWEEK.com // PARTNERS: F1 >>> news fuming finn
