GP Week : Issue 226
.com WEEK Accessible via the GPWEEK APP CLICK on the appropriate provider (right) Pastor Maldonado is certain he will remain with Lotus for 2016 despite constant rumours the Venezuelan could be out of the job for next season. "I have a deal until the end of next season," Maldonado asserted, though admitted he was only too aware that contracts are worth little in Formula One, and the team's circumstances could change rapidly if the team is sold. "At the moment it is all looking fine, but for sure you never know in F1," he said. Speculation has linked Renault with a buyout of the Enstone team, which it formerly owned, and could see the French manufacturer back on the grid as early as next season. If the sale were to go ahead it remains to be seen whether Maldonado would be retained. A decision from the manufacturer about its Formula One future is expected next month, though for his part Maldonado remains confident in his position. "I think it will not affect anything in my situation," he claimed. "I just wish the best for the team, because at the moment the team is living a difficult time. "It is a great team, they are very professional and passionate about racing. Even at this time, we race all together, all doing our best and fighting until the last lap. "We are not happy where we are at the moment and we think there is something else to find in the track and outside the track. We are always trying to do our best."
