GP Week : Issue 15
Van Eldikv’s Fire MARK van Eldik and his co-driver had a lucky escape when their works rented Subaru Impreza World Rally Car crashed into a tree on the ELE Rally in Holland and instantly burst into flames. The car was run by Prodrive, who could not immediately explain the reason why the car should catch fire so quickly, but stated: “We will investigate fully when we see the damaged car and assess all the data.” The car was an old team test car which they had never actually run on a world championship rally, but which in all material respects was identical to the S12 wide-track model cars used by the works team drivers.
