GP Week : Issue 17
F1 NEWS >> THE French Grand Prix has received a reprieve and appears on the 2009 Formula 1 calendar. A provisional calendar of 19 dates was released by the FIA following the meeting of the World Motorsport Council last week and, as predicted in GPWeek last week, France maintains its position in the championship. The US Grand Prix remains a notable absentee from the season, with race organisers still unable to find a backer for an event. There are two date changes of note, with Turkey reverting to its traditional August date, and the British Grand Prix being moved to the end of June, one week before the French Grand Prix. The season will start later than normal on the 29 March in Australia and will end with the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 15. The provisional calendar is: 29 March Australia 5 April Malaysia 19 April Bahrain 10 May Spain 24 May Monaco 7 June Canada 21 June Great Britain 28 June France 12 July Germany 26 July Hungary 9 August Turkey 23 August Europe (Valencia) 6 September Italy 13 September Belgium 27 September Singapore 11 October Japan 18 October China 1 November Brazil 15 November Abu Dhabi France in, America out for ‘09 11
