GP Week : Issue 25
>>WRCnews Francois’ factory gig FRANCOIS Duval will be registered as a World Championship entry for BP Ford Abu Dhabi WRT, driving the 2008 version Ford Focus RS World Rally Car competition on the forthcoming asphalt rallies in Spain and Corsica. For these events, Jari- Matti Latvala will drive for the Stobart VK team instead, in a 2007 model Focus RS World Rally Car. On the recent Rallye Deutschland, Duval’s third place for the customer Stobart team dealt a championship blow to the BP team, by denying the official Ford team and their leading driver Mikko Hirvonen much needed championship points. Asphalt rallying is considered one of Latvala’s weaker disciplines, though in 2005 he won the PCWRC category in Corsica and was second in Catalunya, and he finished fourth overall in Corsica in 2007. The shuffle, however, is seen not so much on this account, more in order to prevent a repetition of the embarrassing tactical misfortunes in Germany for the BP Abu Dhabi team with Duval driving for a rival team. Duval will run these events in the standard BP Abu Dhabi livery, Latvala will drive in Stobart colours, but with the additional signage of Duval’s sponsor Structo. 17
