> F1NEWS> Heidfeld tops Monza test NICK Heidfeld has risen to BMW’s recent calls for him to up his game by topping the last test of the 2008 European F1 season. The German set his test- topping time on the second of the three day test to relegate compatriot Nico Rosberg into second position, a quarter of a second down the road. Heidfeld’s team-mate Robert Kubica had a tough test however. Given only the final day of running, the Pole had a trip off track in the morning, with the resultant repair work eating into his track time. An electrical issue in the afternoon left him with even less time at a point in the season where he needs to maintain momentum if he is to stay in the title hunt. World Championship leader Lewis Hamilton only spent the final day of the test at the wheel of the McLaren, but went fast enough to secure third spot overall, as all F1 teams tested in low-downforce trim in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix in two weeks time. It was another pretty dismal outing for Honda who propped up the bottom positions on the final two days. What was worse for the squad was the continuing solid performance of Toro Rosso and, perhaps of even greater worry, Force India’s improved showing. Giancarlo Fisichella’s pace, albeit on an undoubtedly light run, on day three saw the Italian finish behind only Hamilton and Raikkonen.
