>>Moto GPMisano Bad track makes for good racing WITH a string of tight corners altered again this year to make the second and third bends tighter, Misano was not popular with the riders. “The new corner is a disaster,” said Stoner after practice. “Last year it was more flowing. Now it’s a pain – Turn 1 is tight, Turn 2 keeps tight, and Turn 3 also.” In fact the last-named doubled back on itself in its new iteration. And nobody liked it. But the track design was quite unexpectedly vindicated on race day. The tight corners may not have flowed, but they did allow a variety of lines, while hard paved run-off meant that over-adventurous attempts could be recovered from without falling off. It was especially obvious in a highly volatile 250 race, but there was more of the same in MotoGP, in the middle order with Toseland’s group, where they often changed places twice in one lap. One veteran opined that what makes a proper GP track is several fifth- and sixth-gear corners. The highly entertained fans at Misano might not agree.
