SPECIAL StAGES n Sebastien Ogier has been promised a drive in a Citroen C4 World Rally Car for Wales Rally GB in appreciation of his efforts in winning the Junior World Rally Championship in a Citroen C2 Super 1600. The car will be run by PH Sport, who also run the World Championship cars for Urmo Aava and Conrad Rautenbach. n It is expected that the five Star Drivers on the 2009 FIA World Championship rallies will be driving Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Xs. The first time the drivers from around the world compete against each other will be in Portugal. n Who knows what the European Pirelli Star Driver Jurors had expected in Austria, but it must have been a surprise that the premier award winner turned up in clothing that advertised Michelin … n While Herrman Gassner Jr was busy in Austria at the Shoot-Out, Herrman Sr finished third overall on the 3 Stadte (Three Cities) Rally in Germany in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X. n The fulfillment of a double life; 32-year-old Nicolas Vouilloz ,who won the IRC series last weekend, has a long history of success at speed. He is a five time downhill VTT (mountain bike) world champion. 16 Jaarko Nikara (Ford Fiesta ST) in action Vouilloz is IRCChampion AVENGING last year’s disappointment, when his team denied him the chance to challenge for the title on the final round, French driver Nicolas Vouilloz became unequivocal IRC champion on the penultimate round of the 2008 season. He was leading the Rallye du Valais until the final stage when team-mate Freddy Loix passed him to score a third victory in the series this year, but Vouilloz’s second place was quite enough for his objectives. Giandomenico Basso had only a slim chance of retaining title hopes, and that largely depended on misfortune for Vouilloz.
