GP Week : Issue 36
> F1NEWS> rds transparency - Following the race, a short written explanation of steward’s decisions will be published on the FIA website. This will supplement the formal steward’s decision which largely defines the breach of the rules. - Where appropriate, additional film evidence that the public may not have seen but which was reviewed by the stewards, will be made available on both the FIA and FOM websites. Calls had been made in 2008 for a permanent race steward to be appointed, preferably a former driver with valid race experience to help advise stewards over the acceptability of certain racing manoeuvres. While the idea of a permanent steward has not been taken up by the WMSC, the body has made special mention that former drivers may seek to become FIA stewards, should they so wish. “No former driver is excluded from seeking their ASN national stewarding licence and then, as with all of the existing stewards, if they gain the necessary level of experience in stewarding events at a national, regional and international level the FIA can consider them for a steward’s super licence,”the statement said. The WMSC also confirmed that mandatory engine life would be increased from two to three races in 2009, as had been predicted. The body also juggled the Formula 1 Calendar to make up for the loss of Canada and France from the 2009 schedule. China has been moved to the early part of the season, with rumours suggesting that 2009 may be the final time Formula 1 visits the unpopular circuit in Shanghai. 2009 FIA Formula1 World Championship 19 April 26 April 10 May 24 May 7 June 29 March 5 April Australia Malaysia China Bahrain Spain 21 June 12 July 26 July Monaco Turkey 13 September 27 September 4 August 18 August 1 November 23 August 30 August Great Britain Germany Hungary Valencia Belgium Italy Singapore Japan Brazil Abu Dhabi
