GP Week : Issue 41
Short Straights McLaren n Felipe Massa and Adrian Sutil have joined the Grand Prix Drivers’Association, following the lead of Lewis Hamilton earlier this season. Kimi Raikkonen is now the only active F1 driver who is not a member of the GPDA. n BMW has promised to provide its drivers with a lighter car by the time the European season begins in Spain. With the current car too heavy to allow Robert Kubica to run KERS, a lighter version should allow the Pole to utilise the technology for the remainder of the season. n Malaysian GP organisers have admitted they are looking at a change in race start time for 2010 after this year’s farcical ending. They are currently debating a night race, although the weekend’s mess in Qatar for the MotoGP may force them to reconsider. n Renault was in Dubai last week for one of its global roadshows. Things got off to a bad start when multiple Rally Champion and FIA Vice President of Sport Mohammed Ben Sulayem shunted one of the team’s R28 cars after 100 metres on a drag strip. n Enrico Zanarini has announced he will step down from his role as Team Principal of the FMS GP2 team. Full day-to-day running of the team passes back to Paolo Coloni.
