GP Week : Issue 41
Six downtown stages in Australia > WRCnews > Officially published route details for the World Championship Repco Rally Australia reveal that there will be no fewer than 35 special stages! These will be held at 16 different venues, with long road sections and early morning starts each day, and six round-the-houses stages on asphalt. Environmental considerations have been a major consideration in planning the route, in an area noted for its diversity of plant and animal species, where the climate is humid and warm. At 1683km, the total distance of the rally is expected to be the longest of the season. The rally is to be based at the Salt resort at Kingscliff, just inside the New South Wales, adjacent to the Queensland border. The whole event will run within NSW but with international access through Brisbane. It will feature two main hubs, at Murwillumbah (where the start is held, and where the asphalt superspecials are to be run) and Kyogle, where there will be a remote service park on the final day. 19
