GP Week : Issue 53
>>MOTOCHAT has actually lengthened careers. I guess you wouldn’t be one of those riders who wants to can the electronics? I spent from 2003 ride-by-wire with the Aprilia, one of the first, and crashed my brains out, having the thing glitch on me. Had some things happen that … nowadays would never happen because it’s under control. All the technology is sorted out. But I had to go through a couple of gnarly things to get to this point. So if you take it all away, then you’re telling me all the work I’ve done in the past is nothing. So you just tipped yourself on the head for nothing? That for me is hard to swallow. I think it is advancement. How is your Texas property empire? How big is it? It’s all I do. I buy land I know I can turn around in 10 years and double or triple my money. That’s it. I’ve got … I don’t know, 40 or 45 pieces of property. I got 20 acres across the street that we just built a dirt-track on. Hell, I was sitting on a tractor all last week, building a three-eighths mile dirt track. And the car collection? I’m done. In ’04 I got that ’67 Mustang: 427 V8, supercharged, 750 horsepower – what more do you want? I was always into massive horsepower. It’s the only car I’ve ever been in where you approach a traffic light and you want it to turn red. And then there’s the gun collection … Oh man … that’s gotten out of control. The last one I bought was a Smith & Wesson 3.57 Magnum revolver. This is where I pull out my phone, I show you a picture of the gun collection, and you quote yourself saying: “Holy Shit!” Holy Shit! 19
