Short Straights Finally, the axe fa n Schuberth has announced that Michael Schumacher will make his F1 return with a newlydesigned crash helmet, following the accident to Felipe Massa which has necessitated the seventime champion’s return. The addition of titanium plates to the visor mounting points is hoped to improve the visor’s rigidity in a similar accident. n Organisers of the European Grand Prix at Valencia have reported a surge in ticket sales due to the announced return of Michael Schumacher to Formula 1. At the same time, sources from within the race organisation have claimed that Fernando Alonso will be racing at the Grand Prix, despite his Renault team currently being banned. Their appeal against the ban will be heard on August 17. n The first F1 Rocks concerts will take place at the Singapore Grand Prix. The collaboration between F1 and Universal will see RnB superstar Beyoncé and bearded Rock legends ZZ Top performing at the night race with three evenings of concerts planned. n Gauteng Economic Development MEC Firoz Cachalia says the South African province has decided against bidding for an F1 race. The provincial government had been awaiting results of an economic impact assessment study on what benefits a Grand Prix could bring to the province.
