GP Week : 01-Sep-2009
A WEEKEND that had the potential for Toyota to record its rst victory in Formula 1 ultimately saw the team rewarded with no points after bad luck and bitter disappointment curtailed its high hopes. With Jarno Trulli lining up second on the grid and Timo Glock seventh, the prospects for a good result had looked strong for Toyota. Contact for Trulli, however, and a lengthy first pit-stop for Glock means the team will have to wait a while yet to break the race winning duck. "I can't say how disappointed I am with that race," said Trulli. "I was really expecting a strong result because we were in great shape after qualifying. But at the first corner I was right behind Nick Heidfeld and I just touched him slightly and that broke the front wing." The Italian would later retire with irregular brake wear. As for Glock, the mêlée on the opening lap had seen him climb to fourth with a real shot at the podium, but a fuel rig issue in his first stop saw his advantage disappear. "At my first pit-stop we had trouble with the fuel rig which cost me time and positions. The crew did well to quickly change to the back-up rig but nevertheless we lost time. We have to analyse what happened and prevent any similar problems in the future. I did my best and the car was quite quick, but it wasn't to be." Toyota fails to take its chance 26
