GP Week : 01-Sep-2009
Not over 'til it's ov One little slip hasn't exactly thrown the championship battle wide open, but it's injected an element of doubt by showing how easy it can be to lose 25 points. Even if you are Valentino Rossi. With that one little slip Rossi turned a two-race buffer into a one-race buffer. Should it happen one more time, whether by his own error or a machine glitch, Lorenzo will be equal on points once more. Rossi doesn't often make mistakes in the race. Having said that, he has fallen off twice this year already, the first time at Donington Park. It was wet, sure, but it was also possible (as his close pursuer and race winner Dovizioso proved) not to fall off. It's a clear indication of how much pressure the master is under. As he said after the race: "When Dani fell, I knew it would be between me and Jorge ... and he was very fast today." Tell the truth, Rossi has until now been thriving on the pressure, and apparently enjoying having to ride closer to the edge than ever. Accidents can happen in this zone, but it's an area where he feels comfortable nonetheless. All the same, the balance of power has changed once again in a fascinating season, and nothing seems quite as sure as before. There's a bit more racing left in the year after all.
