GP Week : Issue 62
Moto GP NEWS >> VALENTINO Rossi has made a barely veiled threat to quit Yamaha at the end of next year, after the company signed up Jorge Lorenzo as his team- mate for the 2010 season. The champion had made no secret that he would prefer his highly competitive team-mate to move to another team, but after the announcement came at Indianapolis he reacted positively, saying: "I think Jorge has made the right decision." A week later, in an exclusive interview with GPWEEK, he revealed more. "Usually the big manufacturers in the last years have always just one top rider each. In Yamaha, we are two ... so this is a di erent strategy that can bring good results, but also big disaster," said Rossi. "I always try to make a great work for developing the bike, and I usually make the work just for me. "But now I am also doing it for my worst enemy ... "Sincerely, I think I don't deserve this after what I have done for Yamaha. But this is the Yamaha choice ..." Hitherto he has said that he might carry on for perhaps three more years, and that he intended to " nish my career with Yamaha". Now that is up for review, and a move to Ducati would allow him to attempt an ambition he has also spoken about in the past ... to win the title on an Italian bike. "I have to decide about my future with motorcycles at the beginning of June next year -- whether I will continue, whether it will be with Yamaha or if I change ... "Before I never thought of going out of Yamaha, but now with this situation with Lorenzo, I have to make a decision," he said. -- MICHAEL SCOTT Rossi : I don't deserve this from Yamaha COVER STORY -- EXCLUSIVE 5
