GP Week : Issue 64
oullier would relish Renault chance ERIC Boullier, Team Manager of the French DAMS team, has told GPWeek that he would relish the chance to lead the Renault F1 Team in the wake of Flavio Briatore's departure from the squad. Boullier's name was one of a number of potential Briatore replacements mentioned over the past week, along with the founder of DAMS Jean-Paul Driot, GP2 Series organiser Bruno Michel and ART Grand Prix bosses Nicolas Todt and Frederic Vasseur. Boullier has a long and respected history of race team management, and is believed to be free to negotiate with Renault, should the call be made. "I saw my name [linked to the position] and I'm very flattered," Boullier told GPWeek. "There's been no direct contact but a couple of indirect ones. I know my name was put on a list within some talks by them and obviously if, tomorrow, somebody is doing direct contact I would be pleased to speak to them. "It is Formula 1 and it's a different world to GP2. I would consider it a lot if such an opportunity was offered to me." Driot, meanwhile, said that a full-time role would not interest him but that he would be happy to take charge of Renault in the interim as they searched to find a new team chief. "For a very short period, just to do an interim [job] because I think I know perfectly well all Formula 1, the actors and the politics and Bernie. If there was the need just for an interim, for a short run, then I would be interested," he told GPWeek. Bruno Michel -- GP2 Series organiser, close ally of Renault, Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone, declined to comment.
