F1 NEWS >> LEWIS Hamilton's tactics were under the spotlight during the GPDA meeting in China. The McLaren driver was left puzzled as to why the were making such an issue about him weaving down the straight at Sepang in order to prevent Vitaly Petrov getting an aerodynamic tow. The McLaren driver was cautioned during the race, but the issue bubbled over to China where many of his rivals said he should have been penalized rather than receiving a mere warning. "The way he drove was not right - I thought something should have been done," said Robert Kubica. "According to the rules, I think there should have been a penalty. Reading the regulations, I'm clear [on what is allowed]. Watching Malaysia, I'm not so clear." F1 regulations state a driver can only change his driving line once to block or otherwise obstruct a following car. "If he was beside me I would have given him some bollocking, because it wasn't right," said Rubens Barrichello, who claimed that style of driving to be more Formula Ford than Formula One. Hamilton said he had clarified the rule with F1 race director Charlie Whiting, and was now clearer on what was allowed. "I don't understand why everyone was fussing about it, but it wasn't really a problem for me," Hamilton said. Asked if other drivers were whining, Hamilton said: "You can write that." Team boss Martin Whitmarsh sought to defend his driver: "Lewis was seeking to break the tow, not prevent an overtaking move. As always Lewis drives and races passionately, but always seeks to be entirely safe." Hamilton criticized for Malaysian weaving COOPER Avon has emerged as a surprise late contender to supply F1 with tyres from next year. In recent weeks the teams, FIA and FOM have been discussing the basis of an agreement with Michelin, who want to introduce a wider-rimmed tyre. But now it's understood Cooper Avon have made an official proposal to FOTA. While what is proposed is believed to have the support of every team, the move still needs ratification from the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone before it can be put into practice. It is possible that the tyre manufacturer could use former Bridgestone personnel to help service the tyres and ensure it is operating at a level that will satisfy F1 teams.
