GP Week : Issue 84A
WRC PORTUGAL >> Kevin Abbring was bemused by his victory with a Renault Clio R3 in the Junior series, surviving a route which created endless troubles for the other nine starters in the category. Towards the end of Day 2, only he and the 17 year-old Estonian Suzuki driver Karl Kruuda had completed every stage! First leader was Yeray Lemes in another Clio R3, and he was lying second at the end of Day 1. Immediately on Day 2 however he was out with an electrical problem. The leader had been Thierry Neuville but he slid the car o the road and was jammed against an electricity pylon. Aaron Burkart assumed a healthy lead but he went o the road and damaged the radiator, and through it all, in a state of bewilderment came the wise young driver Abbring whose result now puts him and Burkart equal on points in the championship. Surprise Junior win to Abbring 45
