What is racing like without Rossi? Maybe everyone was still too shell-shocked to find out at Mugello. It was a bit too soon. The crowd figure, for instance, was not hugely affected -- 76,000 against 81,657 last year. But most had brought their tickets already. Nor was the pace of the race. Pedrosa set a new record on lap five, on his way to victory. It was, as several riders said, "not the same without him". But the record shows it wasn't necessarily less. It's just that something was missing, that everyone has got so used to that it left an aching void. Rossi himself was incommunicado in hospital, but the news from there was not surprising.
