F1 NEWS >> For your daily dose of Formula 1 news ... Ethan Batchelor Fundraising Appeal THE Formula One world gathered this week to raise money for a Scottish school in memory of the son of one of the paddock’s photographers. Ethan Batchelor died in April at the age of eight, following a long struggle with Congenital Disorder of the Glycosylation (type 1a), a disease for which there is no known cure. But Ethan was a fighter. Despite predications that the severity of his illness – acknowledged by specialists to be the most severe case in the UK – meant that it was unlikely he would live to 18 months, Ethan was known by all who met him for his cheerful disposition. Following his son’s death, F1 photographer Russell Batchelor organised a fundraising appeal in the form of an auction of Formula One memorabilia with all proceeds going to Castleview School in Stirling. Castleview “provides education for young children with a range of severe and profound additional support needs” and is operated by the local authority. The aim of the auction is to raise money for interactive equipment for Ethan’s former classmates to enjoy. “It would be a great comfort to know that, out of the great loss of our dearly precious son, much stimulation and fun can be given to his friends, by providing them with interactive equipment in Ethan’s honour,” Russell Batchelor said. Nine of the paddock’s 12 teams have contributed lots including signed racewear – including Alonso’s Ferrari suit and Vettel’s fireproof t-shirt - car parts, and books. Bidding opened on 9 September, and will continue until 18 September. Details of the auction can be found at www.castleviewf1. Sebastien Vettel signs the charity photo montage 13
