The FIA has specified the December World Motor Sport Council as the deadline for the Italian federation to decide where the 2012 Italian WRC event is to be held. After the event was dropped from the WR calendar for 2010, the event was run again in 2011 in Sardinia, where it had been held for the years 2004 till 2009. The main cause for delay is the impending election for the President of ACI, the Italian motoring authority, which would be a major player in the financing of the event. Financial delay issues in Sardinia have been cited as the cause of indecision, and this led to suggestions that Sicily could offer an alternative location It is not known whether the infrastructure in Sicily would satisfy the FIA’s requirements, although the all-asphalt Targa Florio Rally continues to be held on the island. Small gravel events are also held there. No decision has yet been taken as to who would organise an event there. Decision time for Italy ... Austrian co-driver Ilka Minor, formerly Petrasko, was awarded the Michael Park Trophy, annually given to co-drivers in memory of Michael ‘Beef ’ Park, the Peugeot team co-driver who died in an accident on the 2005 Wales Rally GB. 36 year-old Ilka who works now with Henning Solberg has long been respected as one of the most modest, friendliest and competent co-drivers in the WRC. Close associates also admire her incredible courage following a serious leg injury incurred on the 2001 Acropolis Rally and later a back injury on a national event in Austria. Ilka wins Park Award
