SORDO TO DRIVE FORD IN ARGENTINA Latest Mini news is that not only are Prodrive’s WRC team to miss Argentina, the Acropolis and the Neste Oil Rally Finland, but their driver Dani Sordo has been lent to Ford for Argentina as replacement for the injured Jari-Mati Latvala. Ford have stressed this is a one-rally-only deal. This will be Sordo’s first rally in a Ford. The Spaniard has already stated he hopes his talents will not be gauged by Ford only on this one event. There are growing rumours that Dani (right, having a trial run) is being considered as the permanent replacement for Latvala at Ford in 2013, if Latvala moves on as expected to VW. The chance to capitalise on Sordo’s remarkably consistent WRC career record is what Ford seeks in order to keep competitive in the race for the 2012 manufacturers’ title. Sordo’s co-driver in Argentina will be Carlos del Barrio, as usual. Del Barrio has been released by Eliseo Salazar, with whom he had been entered in Argentina. Salazar will now be with the retired co-driver Marc Marti. Marti won Argentina in 2004, on the occasion of Carlos Sainz’s final WRC win. Prodrive meanwhile have confirmed that their next team WRC entries will be in New Zealand, Germany and then Britain. The official WRC registered Mini Portugal team is due to compete on all the remaining events in the WRC season independently. 15 GPWEEK.com // PARTNERS: WRC >>> news
