GP Week : Issue 157
THE MOMENT Pole sitter Jean-Pierre Jarier, Lotus 79, who retired from a commanding lead at the first Canadian GP at its current venue, in 1978 , leads the field away. The race provided the first GP win for the man the circuit is now named after – Gilles Villeneuve (Ferrari, #12). The circuit was built on the island which formerly hosted Expo 67, then Olympic rowing. (Sutton Images archive 1960-2012. Over 800,000 images available online for search and print order)
