GP Week : Issue 189
5 MINUTES speed up more quickly. It is not just experience: I have been like this from the start of my career. In 125 it was the same. Of course I reduced the time, but it is necessary to improve more. If you were not racing what would you be doing? My father was a racer, I grew up with bikes and cars – probably a mechanic or something at home. I don’t think I would be in the paddock. All my family, my uncle and cousins, they are working in a car repair company. I would do something like this. Repairing the crashes. Are you racing for Germany, or yourself? (Laughs) Good question. Sometimes I am racing for Germany ... because the German TV and press have only one guy they can communicate with. Sometimes I have to be very careful what I say, and sometimes feel a lot of pressure. I can handle it, but you know Germany has been waiting such a long time for results in the premier class. We had some good results with me and Sandro (Cortese) in recent years, but never a race winner or champion in the top class. At the moment I cannot see anyone from Germany coming to replace me, so I am just doing my best to get that done and come closer to the top. How do you relax? Of course training: I could feel the batteries were a little low before the break. I did Argentina as well as the races, so I was quite happy to get a break. Sometimes I play football, and also tennis. I am not a pro, but I think acceptable. Sometimes I hit the ball quite good. ThenIgotothegymtogetfit, get some muscles ... that’s basically my life at home. Have you bought yourself a Ferrari yet? I have a Honda CRT. I got it for free from Honda Germany. It’s not the most powerful car but it is perfect for travelling. I have an Accord as well – I am waiting for the new NSX. I think it is coming maybe in 2015. My father has the first NSX: so I am waiting. Maybe I get some discount from Honda. Do you read – any favourite book? (Emphatically) No. Maybe when I am older. Just some magazines when I go to the airport to go away – car magazines where they test the new Mercedes or BMW, some bicycle and tennis magazines. Music or movies? What’s your latest download? Hmmm, I would have to check – most of the time hits from the top of the charts. I’m just a casual music listener: rock and pop. Sometimes I go back to old German music. And a favourite place you want to visit? Before I went to Indy I spent six days having some holiday in Toronto. I wanted to see the Niagara Falls, so I did it just a couple of weeks ago. Now maybe one day the Victoria Falls. Can we expect to see much of you on Twitter? Many riders are using it so I am using it also – but not tweeting every day what I am doing right now. Most of the time to let the people now about the race weekend so far. Professional use. And finally, your favourite joke? Oh–Iamnotgoodaboutthat.Iliketo listen to somebody telling good jokes but I never save them in my mind. 20 GPWEEK.com // 20 GPWEEK.com // PARTNERS:
