THE MOMENT The weekend of October 7, 1973 – 40 years ago – was a poignant and sad one. Shortly after this image was taken, Frenchman Francois Cevert crashed and died in practice for the US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen, prompting Tyrrell team leader Jackie Stewart to announce his retirement without contesting what would have been his 100th Grand Prix.
