GP Week : Issue 199
20 GPWEEK.com // 20 GPWEEK.com // PARTNERS: Hello everyone! How is 2014 treating you? The year of two-wheeled racing is shaping up to be an exciting one! My year so far has been pretty crazy, I’ve been involved in setting up the AGT REA Racing team, I’ve broke my foot and I’ve got the first round of the Moto2 World Championship out of the way! It has been very hectic since we formed our new team. Our team is called World Motors Rea Racing and it is American- based (in Austin). The ‘World Motors’ part comes from Dave Peterson, who is now President & CEO of WMRR (World Motors Rea Racing) and Martin R. de Rooy, who is Team Director of WMRR. The ‘Rea Racing’ part is the team that myself and my father created last year, which in turn earned me the permanent entry into this years Moto2 World Championship. Dave Peterson also happens to sit on the Board of Directors at American Green Technology, our title sponsor; hence the teams name AGT REA Racing. American Green Technology are doing fantastic things, saving lives all around the World and saving companies millions of dollars in energy costs. We have also recently announced our new Official Charity partner, LIVESTRONG, who support the lives of people affected by cancer. I’m very proud to be working with such amazing companies. On to riding! Our first race at Qatar didn’t quite go to plan but there were many positives to take from it. I had to retire on lap three after being in a battle for the points (top 15). I’ve also been battling a broken foot that I sustained during pre-season testing, which hasn’t helped our progress. So to battle in the top 15 is a good start for us. Just to get to Qatar as a new team is such a huge thing that I can’t put it into words. The only other teams to gain access to the ‘permanent’ stature of the Moto2 Championship this year are Caterham (an F1 team) and Petronas (sponsors of the Malaysian GP). We are very proud to have reached this point and now I believe our hard work and determination will get us to where we want to be, at the front of races. In our case, the front of the Moto2 World Championship, the most competitive class in the World. Today (Monday) I leave for the Austin GP at the Circuit Of The Americas, my team's home race – I can’t describe how excited I am! Austin is also home to our Official Charity partner LIVESTRONG, so it’s going to be a real home race for the AGT REA Racing team! I have been doing my best to learn the circuit from videos and PlayStation, so I hope I can adapt to it as quickly as possible. I’ve heard so many great things about the Circuit Of The Americans and it looks incredible, so I can’t wait to get there and ride. I am going to give it my absolute everything, my foot is starting to feel better and my fitness levels have increased with my recent training so I’m looking forward to putting 110 percent effort in. It would be amazing if we were to get our first points onboard at our home GP. It really would be cool. We’ll need as much support as possible, so get behind the AGT REA Racing team and cheer us on!
