GP Week : Issue 205
KImi Raikkonen is in doubt for this week’s in-season Formula 1 test at silverstone following his heavy crash in the British Grand Prix. The Finn lost control of his Ferrari F14T after hitting a bump trying to return to the track after a brief 'off' on the opening lap of sunday's British GP and, while he suf fered bruising to his knees and ankles but no major injuries in the shunt, his participation in this week's two-day test remains in question. “We checked several times and we will take a decision about the test, and what to do with the test, so we see after today,” reported team boss Marco Mattiaci on sunday evening. “I want to be 100 percent sure that he will be fine before. But there is no major issue at the moment.” The Finn had been due to drive one of the two days, with Ferrari test driver Pedro de la Rosa driving the other. It is now possible that the spanish veteran may do both days, or that Fernando Alonso may be brought in to take over. A decision is expected based on Kimi's condition on Monday. The accident came days after Raikkonen received the full- throated support of his new boss. “K imi is a great champion,” Mattiacci told Italy’s Autosprint. “It makes no sense to talk about a problem of the individual; it is a problem of the team as a whole. He will return to being a great,” Raikkonen returned to Ferrari at the start of the season after two years at lotus and remains under contract to the team until the end of the 2015 season. He has however hinted that at the end of his current deal, he may draw the curtain on his Formula 1 career. F1 >>> nEWs kimi in doubt for f1 test 7 GPWEEK.com // 7 GPWEEK.com // PARTNERS:
