MOTOGP >>> nEWs moto2 – rACe HoW tHe West WAs Won Anthony West comes from Queensland, which is generally regarded as the warm part of Australia. But when it rains there, it really rains. And when it rains, West really flies. Eleven years after his maiden GPwin,ona250atawetAssen, he did it again. After qualifying 23rd on his usually unfancied SpeedUp-Honda, West knifed his way through the pack into third, and then watched as first Sam Lowes tumbled out of second and then Simone Corsi threw his Forward Racing entry down the road. The Italian had been sitting on a lead of more than 10s; Briton Lowe remounted, but had a second, even bigger, crash barely a minute later. So ‘all’ West had to do was to stay upright for the second half of the race. But the track was drying, the wet tyres were suffering and Maverick Vinales had other ideas. He mounted a huge challenge, but the veteran held stretched the gap when he could and off the star rookie by a few tenths to take an accomplished win. Mika Kallio, who lost a huge amount of ground on the first lap, recovered to third ahead of the Suter trio of Johann Zarco, veteran Alex DeAngelis and Thomas Luthi. It was a tough day for points leader Tito Rabat, who like Kallio dropped back early on, but he recovered to eighth, almost 20s back from a podium result. Corsi salvaged something from what should have been a great day with 13th.
