F1 >>> nEWs Daimler Chairman Dieter Zetsche has laid the blame for the decline in spectators at the German Grand Prix squarely at the feet of Bernie ecclestone. Zetsche, who oversees Mercedes-Benz’s motorsport activities, told the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that Ecclestone’s methods of controlling the sport, and avoiding any interaction with social media, are to blame. “In what company can the boss always do everything alone?” he said. “I could imagine the marketing of Formula One being taken over by a professional of the new media. “There is still huge potential that should be exploited in the area of marketing, and specifically on the digital side. “Regardless of the leadership (of F1), we need changes in this regard.” Zetsche also spoke of the criticisms levelled by some fans that his team was favouring Nico Rosberg over Lewis Hamilton because the German carmaker would prefer a German World Champion. “We sell cars all over the world,” he said. “We are a German team, but we do not necessarily need a German driver to win.” bENz bOSS bLAMES bERNiE fOR gERMAN NO-ShOW A service driven insurance broker for the fast moving world www.ellisclowes.com +4 4 (0)20 7220 0130 Authorised and regulated by the FCA Registered in England and Wales Company no. 07202991 Registered Lloyd’s of London Broker 12 GPWEEK.com // 12 GPWEEK.com // PARTNERS:
